Fake Skating

Fake Skating is a feature film in pre-production at Sony Pictures and Columbia Pictures, with Josh Boone attached to direct. Based on Lynn Painter's New York Times bestselling young adult novel, the high school hockey romance follows former childhood best friends Dani and Alec, who reunite in their Minnesota hometown after years apart. When circumstances bring them together, they agree to fake a romantic relationship—she needs credibility for a Harvard application, he needs to impress NHL scouts. The screenplay was penned by Morgan Lehmann and Victoria Bata, with revisions by Boone and his writing partner Knate Lee. Will Gluck and Jacqueline Monetta are producing through Olive Bridge Entertainment, with Madison Jones executive producing and Painter also serving as executive producer. The project is part of Sony's ongoing strategy of adapting bestselling novels, following successes like It Ends With Us. Sony has dated the film for a July 16, 2027 theatrical release.
