Project Summary
Being Heumann is an upcoming biographical drama directed by Sian Heder, based on the memoir "Being Heumann: An Unrepentant Memoir of a Disability Rights Activist" by Judith Heumann. The film centers on Heumann's pivotal role in the disability rights movement, particularly highlighting the 1977 San Francisco sit-in, where over a hundred individuals with disabilities occupied a federal building to advocate for the enforcement of Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act. This 28-day protest was instrumental in advancing disability rights in the United States.
