A Farewell to Arms
Project Summary
A Farewell to Arms is gearing up for production with a refreshed financing and sales structure. Director-writer Michael Winterbottom brings Hemingway's 1929 war classic to the screen with Tom Blyth starring as Frederic Henry, the American ambulance driver who finds love amid the chaos of World War I Italy. The project, originally developed with Fremantle, has found new backing from Tribune Pictures, which is producing and financing alongside Revolution Films. Embankment Films is handling international sales and brought the package to the 2026 Cannes market. Melissa Parmenter produces for Revolution Films, with Winterbottom and Richard Brown executive producing. The production is targeting an early 2027 shoot in Italy, with the Hemingway Estate's full support. Winterbottom has adapted the screenplay himself, aiming to capture what he calls Hemingway's approach of paring a story down to the bare bones.
