About

Michael Winterbottom (born 29 March 1961, Blackburn, Lancashire) is a prolific and genre-defying English film and television director widely regarded as one of the most restlessly inventive figures in contemporary British cinema. He co-founded Revolution Films in 1994 alongside producer Andrew Eaton, and has directed over 30 features and series spanning political docudramas, literary adaptations, improvisational comedies, and intimate relationship dramas. Three of his films have competed for the Palme d'Or at Cannes, and he won the Silver Bear for Best Director at the 56th Berlin International Film Festival for The Road to Guantanamo (2006). His production company Revolution Films holds a first-look deal with Fremantle, and his current projects include Gaza Year Zero (2025, in production), The Trip to the Northern Lights (2025, filmed), Fall of the God of Cars (in development), and A Farewell to Arms (targeting 2027).
