The Origin of the World
Project Summary
The Origin of the World marks Brady Corbet's fourth feature following his Oscar-winning epic The Brutalist. The film is currently in pre-production, with Michael Fassbender in negotiations to star alongside previously announced cast members Cate Blanchett, Selena Gomez, and Sadie Soverall. Corbet is working from a 200-page script that he describes as genre-defying and X-rated, exploring American mysticism and the history of the occult across multiple centuries. The production will be produced by Andrew Morrison and Brian Young under the Kaplan Morrison banner, with Daniel Blumberg returning to compose the score. Shooting is planned across two major blocks totaling 50 days, utilizing ultra-rare eight-perf 65mm cameras. Production is expected to kick off in late summer or early fall 2026 in Portugal and South Africa, with a projected four-hour runtime and likely 2027 festival premiere.
