Project Summary

The Killing Machine follows the effect of the fentanyl crisis on the lives of people across Los Angeles. Lily and Lea struggle to fill the hole left in their lives when their husband/father Mikey is killed in the line of duty. Jess, Mikey's cop partner and Lily's sister, pulls away from her family in the wake of the loss, and is forced to take leave from her job. Lily struggles to connect with and comfort her daughter while Lea spirals into addiction after getting hooked on the medication she is taking. When Lea is taken by the drug gangs, Jess and Lily must reconnect to enact justice on those responsible. Meanwhile, Rosa, while attempting to flee across the border, unwillingly falls in with the drug gangs, forced to pack and sell drugs on the street. However, she vows to escape and forge a better life for herself. The production has partnered with a number of major NGOs and organizations fighting to raise awareness on the dangers of fentanyl, illegal prescriptions, and trafficking of illegal minors, who will also help promote the film and do educational and outreach screenings. Directed by award-winning director Julia Verdin, who has built a name for herself with compelling social impact films that have helped raise awareness on key social issues and instigated change. Filming September 1–15, 2026 in Los Angeles, California.
