Stages

Stages is the directorial debut of Sonoya Mizuno, the actress known for Ex Machina, Devs, and House of the Dragon. Now in production across the United Kingdom, the film draws directly from Mizuno's background as a professionally trained ballet dancer. The ensemble cast includes Julie Delpy, Emma D'Arcy, Takehiro Hira, Kathryn Hunter, and Kate Dickie. Alex Garland produces alongside Peter Rice and Agile Films' Sam Ritzenberg and Myles Payne, continuing a long creative partnership with Mizuno that began with Ex Machina. A24 holds domestic distribution rights, while Focus Features will handle international release through Universal Pictures International. The production team includes cinematographer Wyatt Garfield, costume designer Neesha Tulsi Champaneria, and choreographer Hofesh Shechter. Cameras began rolling in July 2026 for this ballet-centered drama exploring ambition, artistry, and personal loss.
