Nocturnal
Project Summary
Nocturnal is a female-led vampire horror film gearing up for production under the direction of Pascal Laugier, the French filmmaker behind Martyrs and Incident in a Ghostland. Written by David Birke, whose credits include Elle, Benedetta, and Slender Man, the project reunites the writer with producer Saïd Ben Saïd through SBS Productions and SBS International, which is handling international sales at the Cannes market. Set in 1943, the story follows a group of refugees fleeing Vichy France who attempt a desperate crossing of the English Channel, only to wind up stranded on a supposedly deserted island. The island turns out to be home to an undying supernatural evil, and the curse of undeath takes each of the fugitives one by one, until only a single woman remains alive and human. She must then adapt to surviving at the margins of the strange, violent, and perverse community formed by her former companions. The production is targeting a fall 2026 shoot in Latvia.
