Project Summary
Māui & Elvis is a live-action sci-fi adventure-comedy series for children and families, currently in pre-production through an international Indigenous co-production between New Zealand's Whakaata Māori and Canada's APTN. The series brings together Māori and Métis/Cree storytellers, with at least 30 percent of dialogue in te reo Māori. Production companies Whitebait Media in New Zealand and Mosaic Entertainment in Canada are producing the series, with lead producers Janine Morrell-Gunn and Camille Beaudoin at the helm. The series will film primarily in New Zealand's South Island, particularly the Canterbury region, with additional scenes in Vancouver. Casting is currently underway in both countries, with production scheduled to begin in November 2026 ahead of a planned 2027 premiere. The project is backed by Screen Canterbury, the New Zealand Film Commission, NZ On Air, Whakaata Māori, Telefilm Canada, Creative BC, the Canada Media Fund, the Indigenous Screen Office, and APTN, with Blue Ant International handling international distribution.
