Jabari's People
Project Summary
Jabari's People marks the feature directorial debut of Oscar-nominated actor Delroy Lindo, who will also star in the film. The project centers on a young man coping with his mother's death who is sent to live with his grandfather in the Blue Mountains of Jamaica, where the story explores grief, power, spirituality, and the healing power of community through a magical realism lens. Rob Maylor is producing through his company Gwaan Ramp, with backing from private investors Sue Rockefeller, Regina K. Scully, and Melony and Adam Lewis. The screenplay was written by Daoud Abeid and Dahkil Hausif. Production is eyeing a late summer 2026 start and will film in Jamaica, with the team applying for support from the Jamaica Screen Development Initiative. Lindo acquired the screenplay in 2021 and revived the project after initial funding fell through. Cinecom Productions is also attached to the production.
