Project Summary
Henry VIII's Enforcer: The Rise and Fall of Thomas Cromwell is a historical documentary commissioned by ZDF for German-French cultural channel Arte. Bath-based production company One Tribe TV is producing the project, with Dale Templar serving as executive producer. The documentary will blend dramatic reconstruction with expert testimony to reassess Thomas Cromwell, the blacksmith's son from Putney who became the architect of England's break with Rome and mastermind of the Dissolution of the Monasteries. The project arrives amid renewed global interest in Tudor history following the success of Hilary Mantel's Wolf Hall trilogy and the BBC adaptation. Sphere Abacus is handling global distribution. Michael Gries commissioned the project for ZDF/Arte, with Jonathan Ford overseeing for Sphere Abacus.
