Project Summary

Everything Was Beautiful and Nothing Hurt is a feature film adaptation of Ben Reeves' New York Times bestselling novel, with Marc Turtletaub attached to direct and Oren Moverman writing the screenplay. The story follows Travis, the human embodiment of Death, who lives in a small town and spends his days offering comfort to people in their final hours. His solitary existence shifts when he meets Dalia, a midwife, and her eight-year-old daughter Layla, who live across the hall—and he begins to understand the beauty and fragility of being alive. Turtletaub and Moverman reunite after their collaboration on Puzzle and the upcoming Borges and Me. The novel, published by Avid Reader Press in July 2026, won the 2024 Bath Novel Award in an earlier draft. Turtletaub has confirmed the film will shoot in the United Kingdom, though no production timeline has been announced.
