Doyle Pilot

One of 8 boys in a Catholic family, adult Timmy Doyle, the narrator of the piece, looks back on his life in California in the early 1970s - a time of social upheaval in America, and domestic upheaval in the sprawling Doyle clan, where great changes are also underway. Parents Mike and Peggy are trying to wrap their brains around student protests and the Vietnam conflict. Eldest son Lawrence has just announced he doesn't want to become a priest - a real shocker for his proudly Catholic dad. And Timmy, the neglected middle child, wants to become a musical comedy star and finally be the focus of attention. And when Peggy meets her son Eddie's feminist girlfriend, she gets a taste of independence - starting with learning how to drive.
