Project Summary
Behind the Mask: Invisible Life (The Musical) is a powerful new musical based on the groundbreaking novel by 12-time New York Times bestselling author E. Lynn Harris. Raymond Tyler, Jr. , a brilliant young attorney, appears destined for the perfect life until a forbidden romance with charismatic football star Kelvin Ellis forces him to confront his identity, faith, and the expectations of family and society. Seeking a fresh start in New York City, Raymond discovers love, chosen family, and the courage to live authentically. But when Kelvin returns and a shocking HIV revelation exposes the devastating cost of secrecy and silence, Raymond must choose between hiding behind the mask or embracing the truth. Featuring an electrifying original R&B, Gospel, and House score by Motown and Grammy Award-winning legends Ashford & Simpson, this uplifting musical is a moving celebration of resilience, authenticity, and unconditional love. Rehearsals begin October 20, 2026, with previews November 25, 2026, opening November 27, 2026, and closing December 1, 2026 at The Howard Theatre in Washington, DC.
