Arbeit und Struktur (Work and Structure) is a German feature film adaptation of Wolfgang Herrndorf's acclaimed autobiographical memoir. Director Maria Schrader reunites with screenwriter Jan Schomburg to bring the literary phenomenon to the screen, with Sandra Hüller portraying Herrndorf in a gender-swapped performance. The film follows Herrndorf through his final years after receiving a terminal brain tumor diagnosis in 2010, documenting his journey with extraordinary honesty, wit, and imagination as he confronts mortality while remaining immersed in his creative work. Komplizen Film produces alongside Studiocanal, Haut et Court, and German broadcaster ZDF. The production has secured backing from Medienboard Berlin-Brandenburg, Film- and Media Foundation NRW, the Federal Government's cultural film funding programme, and Creative Europe MEDIA. Principal photography is scheduled to begin in early 2027, with Studiocanal handling worldwide sales and theatrical releases planned for Germany, France, and Italy in 2028.
