Image Comics is an American independent comic book and graphic novel publisher founded in 1992 by seven top-selling artists as a venue for creator-owned properties, and is the third largest comics publisher in the United States by direct market share. The company is uniquely structured as a collective, with a Board of Directors comprising partner-founders Robert Kirkman, Erik Larsen, Todd McFarlane, Marc Silvestri, Jim Valentino, and Eric Stephenson, each controlling their own studio imprint. Image publishes titles across nearly every genre imaginable — including science fiction, horror, crime fiction, romance, and superhero — with landmark series including Spawn, The Walking Dead, Saga, and Invincible. It operates with a strict creator-owned philosophy: Image holds no intellectual property beyond its own trademarks, and all copyright remains with the original creators.
