The story follows Calli Miller, a young woman living in a strict, polygamous religious community led by the powerful and controlling Nicholas Freeman. As Calli wrestles with her fate, she is haunted by the memory of her aunt Leah, who once escaped the same life. Faced with increasing oppression and danger, Calli must make a harrowing decision: stay and conform or risk everything to flee.
