Project Summary
J. K. Rowling is a two-part documentary commissioned by BBC Two, BBC Scotland and iPlayer, produced by Rogan Scotland. The series traces the Harry Potter author's dramatic rise from writing in Edinburgh cafés to unprecedented literary success, then examines her evolution into a polarizing public figure through her interventions on Scottish independence, feminism, free speech, and gender identity. Drawing on rare archival footage, Rowling's own writings, and interviews with collaborators throughout her career, the documentary uses her life as a lens to explore three decades of social, political, and technological change in Britain. Executive producers James Rogan and Mark Hedgecoe are leading the project, with BBC Studios handling global distribution. The documentary is currently being shopped at MIPCOM, with a potential broadcast premiere in 2027.
