The Waffle House Index

The Waffle House Index is a sci-fi thriller in development at Apple Original Films, with Inde Navarrette attached to star and executive produce. The project is based on Andrew Nunnelly's screenplay, which appeared on the 2025 Black List and was acquired by Apple in a seven-figure deal. Louis Paxton, whose feature debut The Incomer won the NEXT Innovator Award at the 2026 Sundance Film Festival, is set to direct. Plan B Entertainment is producing, led by Brad Pitt, Dede Gardner, and Jeremy Kleiner. The film takes its title from an informal metric used by FEMA to measure natural disaster severity based on whether Waffle House restaurants remain open. Nunnelly's script follows a waitress named Jane during a night shift that spirals from a storm into increasingly wild disasters. The package came together in August 2026, with production details yet to be announced.
