The Hakim

The Hakim is a historical epic biopic in pre-production, directed by Alex Proyas, known for The Crow, Dark City, and I, Robot. The film chronicles the extraordinary 63-year reign of Shaikh Isa bin Ali Al Khalifa, who inherited Bahrain's throne at age 19 in 1869 and led his nation through a transformative era that included the collapse of the pearling economy, natural disasters, political intrigue, and the discovery of oil that would reshape the Gulf region. PG Entertainment UK is developing, producing, and financing the project, with plans to shoot in multiple locations including Bahrain and London. The screenplay is written by Peter C. Nelson and Fahar Faizaan, who also serve as producers. Casting is currently underway, led by established casting director Dan Hubbard, whose credits include Captain Phillips, The Bourne Ultimatum, and Guy Ritchie's recent films.
