The Great ADHD Myth?
Project Summary
The Great ADHD Myth? is a 60-minute documentary for Channel 4, currently in pre-production with London-based Minnow Films. The project is fronted by Dr Max Pemberton, a full-time NHS psychiatrist, who investigates the dramatic rise in ADHD referrals between 2020 and 2025. Director Xavier Alford leads the production alongside executive producer Liam Humphreys and senior producer Leah Green. The documentary examines whether ADHD represents a genuine neurodevelopmental condition or stems from modern lifestyle factors including screen time, ultra-processed foods, and rigid educational systems. Tim Hancock serves as commissioning editor for Channel 4. The film will feature medical experts questioning conventional ADHD narratives and follow a family experimenting with holistic lifestyle changes as an alternative to medication.
