Project Summary
The Final Bet is a feature film adaptation of Moroccan author Abdelilah Hamdouchi's acclaimed 2001 crime novel, set to begin production in 2027. Hollywood Ventures Group, Canada's Big Picture Cinema Group, and Morocco's Pink Sheep Productions are co-producing the Casablanca-set thriller. Glenn Gainor is adapting the screenplay alongside Taha Benghalem, who will also produce with Seloua El Gouni for Pink Sheep and Nelly Kim for Hollywood Ventures Group. Jayce Barreiro, Graem Luis, and Michael Aleong of Big Picture Cinema Group are co-financing and producing. The project is currently being shopped at the Toronto film market. The novel, touted as the first Arabic detective novel translated into English, follows a young man fighting to prove his innocence after being accused of murdering his elderly French wife, navigating Morocco's legal system and social tensions.
