Project Summary
The Cannibal marks Gustaf Skarsgård's feature directorial debut, a psychological horror film that began principal photography in early October 2026 on the island of Fårö. Written by Peter Birro, the project blends meta-fiction with Bergman-inspired horror as a screenwriter's return to the legendary director's island estate spirals into a nightmarish confrontation with artistic obsession. Production is filming at Bergman's actual estate on Fårö and locations in West Sweden through the end of November. The film is produced by Martin Persson and Mia Welin, with Anagram serving as lead production company alongside co-producers Film i Väst, Gotlands Filmfond, Sveriges Television, Just Republic, and Can Film. Ardalan Esmaili leads the cast, with Claes Ljungmark playing Bergman. Scanbox Entertainment will release the film in Swedish cinemas in 2027.
