Project Summary

It's 1939 — and much like today, economic turmoil, racial tension, and political division consume America. When world-renowned Black opera singer Marian Anderson is denied the opportunity to perform in Washington, D.C. because of the color of her skin, she uses the power of her one voice to transform a historic concert at the Lincoln Memorial into a defining moment of unity, hope, and change. The score includes pieces of Marian Anderson's repertoire, to be classically sung and showcasing her actual performance style. The original songs from the show reflect a more modern musical theatre style, inspired by blues, gospel, jazz, and big band. First rehearsal on or about January 26, 2027, with an opening date of February 25, 2027 and closing date of March 14, 2027. Production is based in Montgomery, Alabama at the Alabama Shakespare Festival. Network/Studio: Alabama Shakespeare Festival Genres: Musical Theater, Historical Drama, Biographical
