About
The Alabama Shakespeare Festival (ASF) is among the ten largest Shakespeare festivals in the world and serves as the official State Theatre of Alabama, permanently housed in the Carolyn Blount Theatre within Wynton M. Blount Cultural Park in Montgomery, Alabama. Founded in 1972, ASF operates year-round producing classics, Shakespeare, contemporary plays, musicals, theatre for young audiences, and exciting new works, staging more than 400 performances annually. ASF also runs the Southern Writers' Project — a new play development program — and the SchoolFest student-matinee program serving approximately 35,000 students annually. The organization is a fully professional regional theatre working in association with Actors' Equity Association, the Stage Directors and Choreographers Society, and United Scenic Artists.
