Project Summary
Kakthet is a debut feature from director Stenzin Tankyong that has won the inaugural Humans of Cinema and Safarnaama Pictures co-production fund, securing INR40 lakh in development support. The Ladakhi-language drama is set in the Changthang region of Ladakh and follows a government school and its surrounding community, both dependent on one reluctant student who has never passed an exam. Produced by Ritu Sarin and Rajesh Thanickan of White Crane Films, with French co-producers La Belle Affaire Productions, the project is now in its fourth screenplay draft. The film previously won the Co-Production Features Grant at WAVES Film Bazaar in November 2025 and was selected for the 2026 Asian Project Market at Busan. Vishal Bhardwaj and Oscar-nominated director Shaunak Sen are attached as mentors, with Sen also serving as executive producer. The team completed location scouting in the Changthang region and Leh in July 2026 and is currently securing additional financing and establishing international co-production partnerships across Asia, Australia, and Europe.
