Jean

Jean is a biographical feature film about artist Jean-Michel Basquiat, with Kid Cudi (Scott Mescudi) writing, directing, and starring as the late painter. Cudi developed the screenplay in 2026 after years of being asked to portray Basquiat, conducting extensive research including interviews with people who knew the artist and studying books about his life. The project is being produced through Cudi's Mad Solar Productions company. Cudi describes the film as a love letter to Basquiat, 1980s New York City, and the downtown art scene that launched the artist's career. Production is targeting a 2027 start date, with early wardrobe tests already completed. This marks Cudi's second directorial feature following Doe, and comes as the filmmaker expands his behind-the-camera work after years of acting in projects including X and Entergalactic.
