Project Summary
Insectario marks the feature debut of Mexican stop-motion animator Sofía Carrillo, whose award-winning shorts Prita Noire and Cerulia have screened at Annecy, Sundance, and festivals worldwide. The project is now in pre-production following a co-production agreement finalized at the 2026 Morelia Film Festival between Pimienta Films—producer of Roma and Emilia Pérez—and Península Films & Entertainment. The international production also includes Inicia Films from Spain, Productions Ocho from Canada, and co-producer Matīss Kaža, who worked on the Oscar-winning Flow. Set in a future where insects have vanished, the story follows Lexi as she discovers that a supposedly extinct Attacus atlas moth has come back to life. The screenplay is by Monika Revilla, known for El baile de los 41. The film is targeting a 2028 release.
