Ghost Songs
Project Summary
Ghost Songs is a world premiere, fully produced new musical set in England in 1649. The Civil War is over, the Puritans are in power, and theatre — even Shakespeare — has been outlawed. A trunk of confiscated play manuscripts arrives at the home of Cat, a sheltered Puritan girl. Together with her American housemaid, Agnes, she becomes the unlikely guardian of a forbidden treasure. Drawn into the magical world hidden within its pages, the two women embark on a journey to the abandoned playhouses of London, where they discover that stories have the power to transform lives, challenge authority, and survive even the darkest times. Ghost Songs is an original three-person chamber musical that blends history, romance, humor, and theatrical imagination into a moving story about friendship, courage, censorship, and the enduring resilience of art. Produced by Independent Shakespeare Co. at the Independent Shakespeare Co. Studio, Los Angeles, CA.
