Project Summary

Gaijin is a drama series in development at Hulu from Shōgun co-executive producer Shannon Goss. Inspired by chef Ivan Orkin's real-life journey building Ivan Ramen, the series follows Ivan, an American widower who relocates to Tokyo with his young son. Seeking connection to his late wife's Japanese heritage, he moves in with his in-laws and pursues his dream of opening a ramen restaurant. Joseph Gordon-Levitt is set to executive produce and is expected to star as Ivan. The production comes from Lionsgate Television, with executive producers including Goss, Orkin, Gordon-Levitt and Jared Geller via Hit Record, and Nickel City Pictures' Mark Fasano, Matthew Goldberg, Mike Blutstein, and Andrew Gottlieb. The series will follow Ivan as he navigates culture clashes and builds both a business and a new life in Japan.
