Project Summary
Eight Billion Genies is in development as a feature film for Amazon MGM Studios, based on the eight-issue Image Comics series by Charles Soule and Ryan Browne. Rodney Rothman, Oscar-winning co-writer and co-director of Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, is writing the screenplay and is several drafts into the development process. Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg's Point Grey Pictures is producing, with James Weaver, alongside executive producers Charles Soule, Ryan Browne, Stephen Feder, and Kiri Hart. Amazon acquired the rights in 2022 with ambitious plans for an expansive cross-media universe, starting with the film and potentially expanding to series and other formats. The story centers on strangers in a Michigan bar when everyone on Earth simultaneously receives a genie and one wish, transforming the world through the collision of eight billion different desires.
