Discovering Sambha

Discovering Sambha is a feature documentary directed by Emmy-nominated filmmaker Manjari Makijany about her father, Indian character actor Mac Mohan. Mac Mohan appeared in over 280 films across a 50-year career and earned lasting recognition as Sambha in Ramesh Sippy's 1975 blockbuster Sholay. The project is structured as an official India-Australia co-production, with Manjari leading through Asia Pacific Pictures alongside producer Emmanuel Pappas, and her sister Vinati Makijany producing through Mac Productions. The documentary will draw on archival material, family recollections, and reflections from colleagues, exploring themes of identity, legacy, and the relationship between cinema and personal memory. Shivendra Singh Dungarpur of the Film Heritage Foundation has joined as advisor. Production is set to begin later in 2026, with a theatrical release targeted for 2027.
