Decebal's Wedding

Decebal's Wedding is a comedy-drama feature film currently in production in Romania, marking the directorial debut of Matei Lucaci-Grunberg. The project adapts the stage play originally created by Lucaci-Grunberg and Eduard Buhac for Teatrelli in Bucharest. The story follows Decebal, who left Romania eight years ago, as his family back home participates in his New York wedding through a Skype call. The film explores the legacy of Romania's 1990s migration wave, weaving together intimate family drama with broader questions about emigration and those who stayed behind. With a Romanian and British cast, the film is being produced by Atelier de Film UNATC. Decebal's Wedding was selected for the Transilvania Pitch Stop at TIFF's Romanian Days 2026, where it was presented as a work-in-progress to European sales agents.
