Project Summary
In 1920, Charles S. Gilpin is just another failed actor, a black man obliged to work as an elevator operator in a Manhattan building. Bitter about his lack of recognition, Gilpin gets the role of a lifetime when he's offered the lead part in Eugene O'Neill's "The Emperor Jones."
