Estonian Film Institute

The Estonian Film Institute (EFI) is Estonia's national public film funding foundation, established in 1997 by the Ministry of Culture and reorganized under its current name in 2013. Financed primarily by the Ministry of Culture, EFI finances and promotes Estonian film productions, establishes international film contacts, supports filmmaker training, and maintains the Estonian Film Database (EFIS). EFI operates three main departments—Production; Outreach and Audience Engagement; and Film Heritage and Education—and administers the Film Estonia cash rebate scheme (up to 40% on eligible local spend) for foreign productions. It also organizes the annual Estonian Film and Television Awards (EFTA) Gala and manages subsidiary Tallinnfilm OÜ, which operates the Artis arthouse cinema.
