Project Synopsis:

Norman Maine is an aging rock star who is writing his new song while he battles with his long time manager, George, about not wanting to sell the rights to his songs to a powerful music producer by the name of D'Aries. George is his friend, but informs him that he doesn't have any money and needs to sell the rights to survive. Norman goes to a bar and sits in a dark corner with a drink as he writes his song. Before he leaves, he hears an inspiring rendition of "Somewhere Over the Rainbow" sung by Esther Johnson. She is there for her sister Jacquie's bachelorette party. He approaches her and introduces himself. He asks her friends where she works and they tell him she is a hair stylist at Lorelei's Beauty Shop. The next day he makes an appointment and gets his hair cut by her. He asks to take her out and after a bit of skepticism, she agrees. He takes her to a bar where he inquires about why she isn't singing professionally with that voice. She explains that when she was a kid her mom got her into it and she took voice lessons and piano lessons and performed all the time, but then her mother died and she found herself keeping the shop open and paying the bills. He takes her home and before he leaves he tells her she has a voice people should hear. Norman meets with mega producer D'Aries and agrees to sell him the rights to his song, on the condition that he listens to Esther sing. Norman arrives at Esther's apartment with champagne and informs her that he got her an audition with D'Aries. Norman and Esther begin a budding romance while he records a song of hers in the studio in his lake house. She accompanies him to the Midtown Music Festival where he is reluctantly going to sing his hits. He finds D'Aries and confronts him about not listening to Esther sing. D'Aries tells him he has been too busy, so Norman takes matters into his own hands and invites her onstage to sing. The crowd loves it, and D'Aries instantly signs her to a contract. Norman warns her of the evils that can accompany her rise to fame, and she wants him with her every step of the way. D'Aries mixes her first single "Delete U" which rises to the top of the Billboard charts. Meanwhile, Norman receives letters from the IRS and is forced to sell his belongings to keep them from taking his house. He continues to write his new song while Esther is nominated for several Grammy Awards. At the ceremony, Norman arrives late and drunk to present her with the Artist of the Year Award. On stage he makes a fool of himself, and the next day Esther confronts him and coerces him to go to rehab. Contact production office to inquire about crew jobs:
