Project Summary
Xtravaganza is a musical that will explore how Jose Xtravaganza's artistry helped pioneer Voguing and bring it to the world stage. Set against the backdrop of New York City's underground ballroom scene of the 1980s and 1990s, the show fuses musical theatre with Voguing battles, dance, original music, and storytelling through the eyes of Xtravaganza, one of the only living ballroom pioneers. Produced by Baltimore Center Stage, with book by R. Eric Thomas and music and lyrics by Khiyon Hursey, directed by Stevie Walker-Webb. First rehearsal is Tuesday, March 23, 2027, with the first preview on Friday, May 7, 2027, opening Saturday, May 22, 2027, and closing Sunday, June 13, 2027, with a possible extension through Sunday, June 20, 2027.
