Untitled Louvre Heist Film
Project Summary
French director Romain Gavras is developing a heist drama based on the October 2025 Louvre robbery, one of the most audacious art thefts in recent history. The project is being produced by Iconoclast, the Paris-based production company behind Gavras's previous films Athena and The World Is Yours. Gavras is co-writing the screenplay with Simon Jacquet and Mourad Winter, adapting the investigative book Main basse sur le Louvre by journalists Jean-Michel Décugis, Jérémie Pham-Lê, and Nicolas-Charles Torrent. The book reconstructs how thieves disguised as construction workers broke into the Louvre's Galerie d'Apollon in broad daylight, smashing display cases and escaping with eight historic jewels in under eight minutes. Gavras plans to shoot the film in France, with early reports suggesting production could begin in 2027 and a potential 2028 release. The project is in early development, with no cast or official title announced yet.
