Project Summary
Hirokazu Kore-eda is currently scripting an untitled English-language feature for Searchlight Pictures, with Eddie Redmayne attached to star and produce. The Palme d'Or-winning director of Shoplifters confirmed at the Busan International Film Festival that the screenplay is in progress, with preparations moving forward smoothly. Jonathan King and Ash Sarohia will produce alongside Redmayne, with Joyce Jun and Kaoru Matsuzaki serving as executive producers. This marks Kore-eda's first English-language film, following his international work on the French feature The Truth and Korean drama Broker. Plot details remain under wraps at this early stage. The project was announced in February 2026, with Kore-eda noting he hopes to present the film formally in 2027 at the earliest.
