The Rehearsals

The Rehearsals is an international co-production from director Celina Murga, whose previous work includes the Martin Scorsese-presented The Freshly Cut Grass and Berlin competition title The Third Side of the River. The film follows a daughter navigating the challenge of accompanying her mother through Alzheimer's while managing a household shared by two caregivers, her teenage son, and her younger sister. Blending realism with surreal touches—including a mysterious presence of bulls surrounding the house—the project reflects on how society views aging and deterioration. Uruguay-based Alterna Media is leading production, with executive producers Maria Laura Berch, Joaquin Romero Vercellino, and Lucia Vela. The project is currently participating in the San Sebastián Europe-Latin America Co-Production Forum as Murga consolidates international financing. Shooting is planned for Uruguay by 2028, taking advantage of the country's audiovisual tax credit on up to 30% of eligible expenditures.
