Project Summary

Malicious Intent is a six-episode true-crime docu-series based on a real-life story involving a disputed lockout from a shared home, false police allegations, a restraining order, alleged abuse of the legal system, and the aftermath that followed. The series is told from the perspective of the person who lived through it and is built around the documented timeline of events. The project is being independently developed and produced as a podcast-style documentary series for YouTube, combining the host's narration with a firsthand account of what happened. Extensive source material is available, including court records, police reports, text messages, videos, and other documentation related to the events. Malicious Intent follows Barnaby De La Cruz after his ex locks him out of their shared home and calls police with allegations of physical abuse and a knife incident that he says never happened. Those allegations lead to an EPO and an official court order, changing his life and leaving him treated like a criminal for the next year. As Barnaby begins fighting back, he uncovers a larger trail involving police reports, text messages, alleged threats and extortion, coordination with people in their community, and evidence surrounding how the allegations were presented and later shifted toward police. With court records, videos, messages, and other documentation, Barnaby reconstructs what happened and ultimately decides to sue. Told directly through Barnaby's firsthand account and a host guiding the story, Malicious Intent explores what happens when a personal conflict turns into a legal battle—and what it takes to prove your side when the official record tells a different story. The series is set to shoot November 1, 2026 in Los Angeles, California and will be released on YouTube at MaliciousIntentSeries.
