Project Summary
Izakaya Heartbreak is a bilingual Japanese-American queer reunion drama set inside a Japanese izakaya in New York. The story follows a J-Pop star who returns home after a decade in Tokyo and reunites with the former lover who now lives the life he left behind. Told in English and Japanese, the film draws inspiration from Japanese Boys’ Love (BL) storytelling, but approaches it through a grounded, adult lens.
