Isabel Hernández
Project Summary
Isabel Hernández is Giorgio Giampà's feature debut, an Italy-Mexico co-production that grew out of seven years of research the director conducted in Guatemala. Written by Giampà with cinematographer Melissa Nocetti, the film follows a young agronomist living in the Guatemalan jungle who recognizes the father who abandoned her as a child in a documentary about Latin American migrants in the United States. Her search for answers leads to two men recently deported by ICE who knew him, whose conflicting accounts force Isabel to confront a past shaped by Guatemala's civil war and fractured memories. The production team includes Zoe Films, LaDoc, Fiasco, and Mexico's Madrefoca Cine, co-founded in 2023 by producers Alejandro Saevich and Jorge Aguilera. The project has passed through TorinoFilmLab FeatureLab and EAVE Producers Workshop, and is among the 15 projects selected for the 2026 Europe-Latin America Co-Production Forum at San Sebastián Film Festival. Principal photography is set to begin in autumn 2027, working largely with non-professional actors whose own lives resonate with the story.
