Home Church
Project Summary
A young woman named Jesse graduates college on the same day her job offer is pulled, her boyfriend ends their relationship, and she discovers her parents are selling the family home. She returns to her childhood bedroom with a degree, no prospects, and no idea who she is without the performance of having it together. Back home and working her old coffee shop job, Jesse is quietly unraveling — until a chance encounter with an older woman named Ruth and an invitation to a Tuesday night gathering in a stranger's living room changes her trajectory. No stage, no cameras, no cover charge. Just food, honest conversation, and a soft-spoken man named James who talks about faith, loneliness, and the algorithm like he's been living inside the same generation he's speaking to. Jesse keeps coming back. She finds her people — Sofia, Malik, Reese — and slowly, reluctantly, begins to believe that belonging isn't something she has to earn. She gets baptized. She gets a job. She posts bail for James with her entire signing bonus without hesitation. But the gathering goes viral, James gets arrested, the house gets shut down, and Jesse's parents move out. Everything she'd begun to build disappears overnight. Stripped of the structure, Jesse has to discover whether her faith was ever really hers — or just borrowed from the room. She finds James at his family's grave. She brings him back. And in the final act, Jesse becomes the one holding the door open — hosting Home Church in her own bare apartment, leading for the first time, phones in the bin, candle lit. The sun rises over the ocean the morning she's baptized. She comes up laughing. Filming August 14–31, 2026 in Los Angeles, CA.
