Jacob works from home in a mindless marketing job. He is a drummer, but he barely plays these days. He doesn't do much at all, but he's okay with "going through the motions," he says. He feels he has everything he needs, because he loves his wife, Emily. Emily is the ambitious one. She has fulfilled her childhood dream of becoming a TV reporter, but now she wants more. She is tough and independent, but her and Jacob are a fit. His easy-going vibe is the yin to her yang. She also has a soft spot for Sam, her little brother, who comes to stay with them after getting out of rehab. Sam has been in and out of rehab for gambling. He's not the kind of moody, disruptive addict that you see in the movies. He's socially awkward, but sweet. He's smart, but crippled by brain rot. He's never really held a job, but he probably could... Sam seems fine. People like Sam always seem fine, til they aren't. Home all day, usually on the couch, Jacob and Sam get along pretty quick. Jacob makes it his mission to help Sam, but who's to say he doesn't need help himself? This leaves Emily as the mother to them both. The boys compete for her affection. Sometimes she's amused; sometimes, annoyed. Unlike Jacob, Emily has known Sam her whole life. He has "recovered" before... How will this time be different?
