215

215 is a coming-of-age scripted series in development at Westbrook Studios, the production company co-founded by Will Smith. The project centers on Smith's early years in West Philadelphia and his partnership with DJ Jazzy Jeff (Jeffrey Allen Townes) as they formed one of hip-hop's first major crossover acts in the late 1980s. The series follows a quick-witted teenage rapper, his DJ best friend, and the friends around them as they chase a record deal and navigate label meetings, hometown loyalty, and sudden fame during a defining era in Philadelphia's hip-hop scene. The title references Philadelphia's 215 area code. This marks the first project from a new partnership between Westbrook Studios and private equity firm The Malar Group, which will fund and develop a slate of film and television projects together. No writer, network, or production timeline has been announced yet.
