Joshua Ian Schwartz (born August 6, 1976, Providence, RI) is an American screenwriter, television producer, and director best known for creating Fox's The O.C. (2003–2007), developing Gossip Girl for The CW (2007–2012), and co-creating Chuck for NBC (2007–2012). At age 26, he became one of the youngest network television creators in history. He co-founded Fake Empire Productions in 2010 with longtime partner Stephanie Savage, and the company currently holds a two-year first-look TV deal with Amazon MGM Studios (signed January 2025), with active projects including the Clueless sequel series for Peacock (ordered April 2025), Sterling Point for Prime Video, a Legally Blonde spinoff for Amazon, and an untitled Barneys New York drama.
