James Francis Gunn Jr. (born August 5, 1966, St. Louis, Missouri) is an American filmmaker who rose to global prominence as the writer-director of Marvel Studios' Guardians of the Galaxy trilogy (2014–2023). In November 2022, Warner Bros. Discovery appointed him Co-Chairman and CEO of DC Studios alongside Peter Safran, where he oversees the entire DC Universe across film, television, and animation. His most recent directorial credit is Superman (2025), which grossed over $616 million worldwide and earned him IMDb's inaugural 'Fan Favorite Filmmaker' Award; he is currently writing and directing the sequel, Man of Tomorrow (July 2027).
