SEGA of America, Inc. is the North American publishing, development, and distribution arm of SEGA Corporation (a subsidiary of SEGA Sammy Holdings), headquartered in Irvine, California, with an additional office in Burbank, CA. Established in 1986, the company publishes and distributes interactive entertainment software across PlayStation, Xbox, Nintendo, PC, and mobile platforms, and is responsible for the Western release of major franchises including Sonic the Hedgehog, Like a Dragon/Yakuza, Persona, and Shin Megami Tensei. SEGA of America ranked #1 among Metacritic's Annual Game Publisher Rankings in 2020 and has pursued an aggressive transmedia strategy with the blockbuster success of the Sonic the Hedgehog film series co-produced with Paramount Pictures. The division is SEGA's primary North American operational base and works closely with SEGA Europe on coordinated global publishing strategy.
