Project Summary
Militancy is centered around a Bed-Stuy born and raised Pan-African community organizer, Eric, and his ecosystem — roommates, friends, organizers — all in their mind twenties, whose lives embody the tension between revolutionary commitment and everyday survival. As militant, politically conscious Africans, they navigate the intersecting pressures of state repression, gentrification, and the daily grind of capitalism, all while contending with the contradictions of love, friendship, and the personal costs of struggle. Central to their praxis is Stoop Politics, a weekly podcast recorded from the stoop of their Brooklyn apartment, a space where political theory meets lived experience, where community dialogue becomes a tool of resistance, and where they wrestle with what it truly means to be uncompromisingly African in a world built on our dispossession. Militancy shadows the lives of four Bed-Stuy–born Pan-African organizers — Huey, Kim, Jamila, and Musa — each in their early thirties, each carrying a conviction that feels as dangerous as it is necessary. Their days are a tightrope walk between revolutionary duty and the fragile choreography of survival, as if every choice they make is being quietly recorded by forces they can't quite name. They move through a Brooklyn that feels rigged against them — state eyes lurking at the edges, gentrification swallowing the block one building at a time, capitalism grinding their bones into dust — while still struggling to keep their relationships, their loyalty, and their own sanity intact. Every bond they hold comes with a cost; every dream they chase feels like it might be the last one they're allowed. At the center of their world is Stoop Politics, the weekly podcast they record from the cracked stoop of their building — a place that once felt safe, but now feels exposed, like a stage someone else built for them. It's where sharpened political theory collides with raw lived truth, where neighbors drift in and out with whispers, warnings, and stories that never leave the block. It is also where the four confront the hardest question haunting their lives: what does it mean to remain unwaveringly African, defiantly themselves, inside a society designed to erase them? This is an Afro-leftist, liberationist, anti-Western, anti-state propaganda series meant for cultural workers who want to make art for African (Black) people. It is a lo/no budget production shot mostly guerrilla style in the 3rd Cinema tradition. Each episode runs under five minutes. The initial rollout features five pilot episodes centering the podcast, then another five episodes with each one introducing one or two of the main characters offering intimate glimpses into their political consciousness, contradictions, and collective vision for liberation. Filming takes place at Herbert Von King Park, Brooklyn, New York.
